Not sure what  kind of bird this is, but I caught him (her) hanging out on a street corner in my neighborhood.  The urge to snap the bird was too much for me to resist, so lucky for me I had my camera with me.  Lucky too that there was no traffic, since I stopped in mid-turn to take the photo from my car.  Can you identify this bird?   afs

Fun, old 7-Up sign found on the side of a barn at Sadler’s Creek BBQ.   afs

I’ve heard many versions of this quote over the years, but I can honestly say that last Saturday was the first time I’ve seen it so prominently posted as it is here on the side of this back yard building in Iva.

My mind began to wander to thoughts about the person who painted this on the building, then to the quote itself and where it originated.  Best I can tell, William Purkey is responsible for these words that have inspired many.  His quote in full is as follows…

“Dance like no one is watching, Love like you’ll never be hurt,

Sing like no one is listening, Live like it’s heaven on earth.”

After the Manna Distribution on Saturday, my friend Lessie and I walked around town and shot some photographs.  While walking around we found this graffiti covered concrete wall underneath the viaduct.  I’m in no way familiar with local graffiti images and what they represent, so I couldn’t begin to decipher the meaning of what we saw (if any meaning were even intended.)   I couldn’t help wonder if the colors used (black and blue) had any significance?  I actually wanted to do some research to see if I could learn more, but alas, there’s never enough time to take care of all of my “wanna’s”.  Leave me a comment if you can shed some light on the meaning of any of the words, symbols or colors.   afs

12-31-the-clock

The clock is winding down on 2008.  For the next few weeks, many of us will be attempting to make the eights look like nines on the papers we’ve dated.  😀

Here’s to hoping that 2008 was nice to you and that 2009 holds many blessings for you as well!  Happy New Year’s Eve!   afs

Picture of a silly sign by the lake.  As if someone would want to take a spin through the kudzu…DUH!   afs

My husband pointed out this sign as we walked downtown on Sunday.  In the day of $1.89 iced tea, a free glass with your meal is indeed refreshing!

Doo Dah Day Cafe is a great place to have lunch, with delicious soups, salads, sandwiches, and “doo dads” (sides).

I also love their fun and whimsical collection of trinkets that line the wall.    afs

This sign struck me as I drove by recently.  I can’t help but wonder if the 3.6 acres includes the Anderson water tower?  😀     afs

There was once a time when this warning sign was necessary.  Unfortunately now, thanks to our years-long drought, the warning is no longer needed.     afs

An interesting part of downtown Anderson’s landscape.  This sign is over a restaurant that is no longer Murph’s, but Pete’s.  Someone told me that “Murph” may have been a family member of “Pete”.  I’m not sure, but I know that the sign always catches my attention when I’m downtown.
