Agh…I think I’ve got a little something in my eye!

I love the aged look of this old barn in Starr.  The weathered patinas of the tin, bricks and wood are amazing and beautiful.

Photo thoughts:  I was trying for a shot where I could capture all of the different textures and lines together in a pleasing composition.   afs

I’ve heard many versions of this quote over the years, but I can honestly say that last Saturday was the first time I’ve seen it so prominently posted as it is here on the side of this back yard building in Iva.

My mind began to wander to thoughts about the person who painted this on the building, then to the quote itself and where it originated.  Best I can tell, William Purkey is responsible for these words that have inspired many.  His quote in full is as follows…

“Dance like no one is watching, Love like you’ll never be hurt,

Sing like no one is listening, Live like it’s heaven on earth.”

…I see you.  Cows number 2450 & 2451 must be best of buds.  Maybe they’re a couple.  Whatever their relationship, they were hangin’ tight together on Saturday in Starr.  They certainly didn’t let me bother them, just kept on chewing and checking me out just as I was checking them out.   afs

Union Baptist Church in Iva sponsored a Manna Distribution last Saturday through Anderson Interfaith Ministries (AIM).  More than 5,000 pounds of free food was given away at the town square to Starr/Iva area families in need.  Saturday of course was Valentine’s Day, so it was quite a nice surprise for the volunteers to find MANY heart shaped potatoes as they bagged them.   Becky and Theresa playfully display the heart shaped potatoes here, but they obviously have live, beating, GIVING hearts, as do ALL of the 50 or so volunteers who came out to help with this mission.

For those of us who have been at many Manna Distribution Saturdays since we began this program, we had our first experience at working in the rain.  I was so touched by the actions of the volunteers.  You would never even know it was raining.  They carried on in their duties with smiles on their faces and love in their hearts.  I was especially touched by a gentleman who drove by, rolled down the window of his truck and handed out brand new unbrellas that he had gone and purchased.

Thank you to each and every one who came out to help the hurting on this rainy day!  Your service impacted the families that were helped that day, and they also impacted me.   afs
