This massive old tree is the star of our neighborhood.  It stands high and proud, watching over us all and gifting us each season with a different view.  We’re approaching the time when it’s most generous with it’s gifts.  Many lawns get scattered with the leaves from this one. 

Although it doesn’t show the entire tree, I think this photo does a fairly good job of showing the huge-ness of this tree in comparison to the surroundings.

Our neighborhood has recently been added to the National Register of Historic Places (North Anderson Historic District.)  It’s now being considered for local historic designation as well, which could offer more protection for “heritage” trees such as this one.  afs
